mongooselemur

As with all lemurs this species comes from the island of Madagascar. The mongoose lemur has of limited range and is now restricted to just a few scattered patches of dry forest to the west of the island. Unfortunately despite their habitat being threatened by slash and burn farming and charcoal burning mongoose lemurs are known only to occur in one protected area, the Ankarafantsika Nature Reserve. This makes the lemurs in captivity especially important for safe guarding the future of this species.

Our pair of Mongoose Lemurs which are currently housed at Ventura Gardens in a brand new enclosure (partly funded by a generous grant from Friends of Paradise Wildlife Park) are part of the European studbook managed by Linton Zoological Gardens in Cambridgeshire, England. We hope that they will breed allowing us to contribute to the future of this species.
