The winner of a festive themed colouring competition got hands on with a free wild animal encounter this week courtesy of Ventura Events and the Letchworth Town Centre Partnership.

Lucky Sapphire Eversley scooped the prize for her and her classmates at Wilbury School, Letchworth after coming first in a Christmas colouring competition organised between Ventura Events and the Letchworth Town Centre Partnership as part of the town centre’s Christmas events schedule back in December.

During the visit, the appropriately named Panda class not only learnt about a selection of wild animals from around the world but also got the chance to get up close and personal with a meerkat, owl, lizard, tortoise, snake, scorpion, and a tenrec. Ashley Palmier, the Director of Ventura Events said: “We are delighted to have worked with the Partnership and provide Sapphire’s class with one of our curriculum based adaptation animal encounters. Our aim is to make learning fun and exciting to help conserve our planets wildlife, and a class full of smiles say it all!”

Kim Barratt, who helped organise the competition on behalf the Partnership said: “Congratulations to Sapphire on her brilliant entry and many thanks to Ventura Events for donating such a fantastic prize. Well done to all the runners up and everyone who took part.”

Kim continued, “Back in December Ventura’s winter animal encounter gave the town’s Christmas shoppers the chance to meet a fantastically furry raccoon dog, an albino skunk, and a magnificent eagle owl. We love the opportunity to bring new and quirky things into the town centre to entertain Letchworth’s visitors and shoppers, and these unusual but striking animals certainly made curious shoppers stop and take a look.”
